On Friday 17th March, Lina Bjerke, CEnSE member and Assistant Professor in Economics at JIBS, was interviewed in SVT

Lina Bjerke, CEnSE member and Assistant Professor in Economics at JIBS, was interviewed in SVT: s Aktuellt in a longer feature on the current economic crisis in Sweden.

Småland, with its large proportion of smaller companies, is the Swedish region hit hardest in times of crisis. This part of the country is also where unemployment is increasing the most. What are the reasons for this? Lina points out type of industry, type of growth and sparseness as three important factors. Although the picture right now is dark, it is not a situation that will last forever, according to Lina Bjerke.

"Småland as a whole will also emerge from this crisis, but there will probably be some transformation in the business sector. That could mean anything from increasing productivity to improving competitiveness or investing in innovation. Much of this can turn out positive for society but can, of course, be incredibly difficult for some individuals who may lose their job in the meantime," says Lina Bjerke.
