More than 3 000 new students at Jönköping University

About 3,050 new students began their studies at Jönköping University (JU) on 22 August. The first week is characterised by the Kick Off with fellowship and great atmosphere.

There is no mistaking that the autumn semester has started at Jönköping University. Students wearing overalls in blue, green, yellow, red and white can be seen and heard on campus and around Jönköping. More students will be added to JU during the autumn through late registration. The total number of students at Jönköping University this autumn amounts to roughly 9,760.

Two of the new students are Martin Björnåsen, Gothenburg, and Frank van Angelan, the Netherlands, who study the Civilekonom programme and the Master programme International Financial Analysis, respectively, at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS).

“I chose JIBS for the school's international character and because I want to study the Civilekonom programme in English. Also, Jönköping feels like a perfect city, says Martin Björnåsen.

A good way to get to know students

Frank van Angelan says that he wanted to study in Scandinavia and that JIBS stood out. He says it is nice to be there and to start his education. Both like the Kick Off and see it as a good way to get to know other students.

Armand Said from Jönköping has chosen to study Human Resources - business administration at the School of Education and Communication (HLK).

“It is a broad education that suits me well because I want to work with people and on long-term tasks. It is really fun to be here on campus! There are many happy people and a nice atmosphere here, he says.

"You feel so welcome"

Matilda Ersson and Evelina Uimonen study Computer Engineering: Embedded Systems at the School of Engineering and emphasize the good atmosphere and community among the students.

“You feel so welcome. Everyone is nice and helpful and the Kick Off in is great fun and beyond my expectations. The fadders are good at gathering and involving everyone who wants to join in the various activities, says Matilda Ersson.

“It is great fun to be here. Jönköping is a nice city and the student life here is great. I got a good feeling the first day I came here and I look forward to studying here for the next three years, says Evelina Uimonen.

“Having a lot of fun”

Alexandra Arnold, Jönköping, who studies the Social work programme at the School of Health and Welfare, says that she was full of new impressions already after the first day at JU.

“I am having a lot of fun and have met a lot of new friends. The best thing about the Kick Off is getting to know a lot of new people, we just walk around and hug and cheer each other on. Then I'm really excited to start studying. What the teachers have told us about what we are going to learn sounds very fun, she says.
