Jönköping University at Almedalen
Developing, attractive, edgy, and dynamic – Jönköping County is an expansive region with bright prospects and a healthy dose of self-confidence. But it is also a region with great needs. This will be highlighted during this year's Almedal Week, where actors from Jönköping County will, for the third year running, build a common meeting place and arena for exciting conversations, inspiration, and debate.
This summer, Jönköping University, Region Jönköping County and Jönköping Municipality are joining together for a common cause during Almedal Week in Visby. The County Administrative Board has also chosen to take a place at the county-wide arena ‘Meeting Place Jönköping County’. Here, the overall goal is to make the county more visible and to create an attractive meeting place for knowledge exchange, opinion making, strengthened relationships and for finding new dialogue areas on important issues.
The seminar program has a broad scope and a clear future focus. Opinion making will be offered alongside good case stories when the county's stakeholders share their perspectives on twenty or so highly topical issues over four days. Within these can be found issues such as the constant search for the right skills, the struggle to maintain water supplies, and how we secure a robust energy supply. On the agenda will also be exciting conversations about our nationally recognized county-wide cooperation, the future of patient-centered healthcare, digitization, new mainline railways, and the need for equality in subject teacher training.
In addition, there will be a seminar on how art and culture contribute to regional development. Among others, national economist Charlotta Mellander, Jönköping University, and theatre manager Hugo Aavaranta Hansén, Kulturhuset Spira, will take part. On the agenda will be themes such as art and culture as appeal factors, why it is important to distinguish between art and culture as concepts, and how to create the conditions for a cultural life which is relevant to residents.
Almedalen is a national arena that brings together the national, regional and municipal perspectives on the future, sustainable development, research, innovation and growth. The arena gives access to opinion- and decision-makers and can form an important platform for dialogue and debate in order to drive forward and gain influence for the county's priority issues - based on a common regional development strategy.
Almedal Week is held 21 June – 1 July.
