Nursing teacher receives prize for innovative lessons that keep students engaged

In order to recognise particularly valuable pedagogical efforts, Jönköping University (JU) has established a pedagogical prize that has been awarded since 2014. This year the prize is awarded to Björn Erfors, lecturer at the School of Health and Welfare.

At the Department of Nursing, Björn teaches students studying on the nursing programme.

“It’s fun to receive this award. It feels like an opportunity and gives me motivation to continue to develop and work for our students," says Björn.

The award consists of a diploma, an honourable mention and a prize money of SEK

25 000 to be used for skills development. The prize will be awarded at the Academic Ceremony which will be held at Kulturhuset Spira on 4 May. In connection with the ceremony, the prizewinner will give a public lecture.

Björn himself finds it difficult to describe what makes his pedagogy good but emphasises a few points that he considers important. See him give his thoughts on pedagogy in the film below.

Motivation for the 2024 prize winner:

"Björn Erfors is nominated for having excelled within the framework of teaching and learning at JU and has elevated the pedagogy of practical knowledge in vocational education by dedicating himself to putting the subject in a relevant context. Not afraid to challenge conventional teaching, Björn has introduced innovative methods to keep students engaged and motivated, and has created a dynamic teaching environment that promotes active participation and critical thinking. Björn is a role model in teaching and a very worthy recipient of the JU Pedagogical Prize."
