JU students broadcast live for 36 hours to raise money for Music Aid

This year's Radio K Bryr Sig (RKBS) event kicks off on the morning of 3 December and they will be broadcasting live until 22:00 on 4 December. The students are broadcasting in support of this year's Music Aid (Musikhjälpen) theme, “Everyone has the right to survive their pregnancy”.

Radio K is one of the committees under the student association LOK at the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at Jönköping University (JU). The highlight and biggest event of the year is RKBS. The event offers live radio with challenges, guests, music and auctions - all in support of Music Aid.

“The target group for the fundraising event is really everyone. Of course, there will be many students who bid and donate money, but this year we also have a collaboration with Jönköping City. Yesterday at the Christmas market, we were in town selling raffle tickets and spreading the word about RKBS, so we hope that more people outside the university know about the event this year,” says Mimmi Alexandersson, sponsorship manager for RKBS.

This year's group, which has been working on the event since March this year, consists of eight students from HLK. But next year's group has already been selected with the aim of letting them experience, learn but also help this year.

Live from Café Rio with many activities

This year's marathon broadcast will take place from a cage at Café Rio in Students’ House on campus. Everyone is welcome to drop in, have a coffee, watch and listen as they broadcast live. The programme for the 36-hour broadcast is extensive. Four live performances are scheduled, it´s Amelie, Jake, Moreau and DJ Norell.

There will also be interesting guests from Erikshjälpen, Amnesty, Akavia and Jönköping Student Union, among others. In addition to exciting interviews, quizzes, great music and various competitions, RKBS also has a variety of auctions. While supporting Musikhjälpen, you can bid on a hockey stick signed by HV 71, a suite at Quality Hotel Match, a guitar from Musikbörsen, a night at Hotel VOX, an annual pass at Friskis&Svettis and much more.

On Wednesday the 4th, there will be a market on campus where several of JU's committees will participate, external associations, a food truck, a tent with secondhand clothes, competitions and lotteries with great prizes.

“It's going to be a lot of fun with a lot of fun elements. But of course, we will also talk about this year's important theme. That's why we're doing all this,” says Mimmi.

“We want to reach SEK 100,000”

Last year, they set a goal of raising SEK 100,000 for Musikhjälpen. Then they stumbled on the finish line and ended up with SEK 97,000. Mimmi is hopeful that this year they will achieve the same goal.

“We have created very good conditions for this year's event. Even now, before we have started officially, we have raised almost SEK 28,000, as many auctions are already out. We have worked very hard for this, since school started in August we have worked almost exclusively with RKBS. Now, of course, we want everyone to support us. We want to reach SEK 100,000 this year, but if we don't, I will still be proud of all of us,” says Mimmi Alexandersson.
