Institute of Gerontology, IFG

At the Institute of Gerontology (IFG), research and education are conducted in the field of gerontology (the study of aging) from biological, psychological, and social perspectives, as well as from a life course perspective.

Education

IFG's programs have a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. This is evident in the student groups where different professional roles meet with the common interest of increasing their knowledge about older adults and aging. The courses are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels. For those who want to deepen their knowledge in gerontology, there is a master's program in gerontology. IFG has been offering commissioned education for many years, primarily in various municipalities.

Research

At IFG, research on older adults and aging is conducted from a life course perspective and with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The research highlights various aspects of older adults and aging.

Collaboration

IFG has a close collaboration with Region Jönköping County, including through Geriatrikum where staff from the department are represented in the steering group. Geriatrikum is a collaboration between Region Jönköping County, the county's 13 municipalities, and the School of Health Sciences to strengthen geriatric research, competence, and development within the county, regardless of the care provider or care process.
