How to teach complex skills with cognitive apprenticeship – E1017
With the teaching of mathematical thinking, modelling and problem solving as main examples, we will discuss:
- How to successfully teach complex skills
- What measures we as teachers need to take to make this happen
- Examples of implementation in undergraduate courses.
Many of the learning topics are of a general nature, so no specialized experience from mathematics is required.

*ABC method for course development and design – E1028
NOTE: this workshop starts at 14.30 and need a minimum of two persons working on a course.
The ABC method was developed at University College, London, and is a research based tool for efficient course design. The workshop has an analogue set-up, but has proven to lead to an increased use of digital recourses in traditional learning situations, "blended learning".
During the workshop, you discuss your own course with a colleague/colleagues engaged in the course. The workshop therefore targets course teams of 2-5 teachers (within the same course, or you can decide to develop a course together that one of you are the course coordinator of). The course team should have a common understanding of the current design and learning outcomes of the course that will be discussed. Bring useful material such as course syllabus and study guide. The workshop leader provides an introduction and helps with advice during the team discussions that bring new ideas and perspectives for future course development.
