Digital language for communication between buildings awarded

The project RealEstateCore has developed a digital language, which enables different systems for building automation to communicate with each other. EEF (Energieffektiviseringsföretagen) thinks that RealEstateCore is one of this year’s most innovative projects, which can both reduce the costs and simplify the increase of energy efficiency for many actors. For this reason, they have chosen to push the boundaries a little and nominate the project to the The Future company of the year 2018.

Karl Hammar, lecturer in information technology and part of the new research group Jönköping AI Lab at the university, has had an important role in developing the first version of the new language, which has got the same name as the project. He will also take part in the continued development of both the standard and the software for using it.

“The idea is to be able to use the data generated from buildings to develop new services for tenants and suppliers to the real estate industry. With a common language it pays to develop that kind of services. It also gives the opportunity to connect different actors in the city. Thereby RealEstatCore contributes to the smart city," Karl Hammar says.

The project has been run by Vasakronan, Akademiska Hus, Klipsk and Willhem. Together with RISE and Karl Hammar they want to create an environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing between real estate owners and partners. RealEstateCore is published as open source code and is accessible for anyone. This enables the development of new services in the future.
