The next generation brake discs
Automotive brake discs are usually made in grey cast iron, but their future can become lighter. Aluminium-based composites are suitable candidates to substitute the conventional material and create light, durable, sustainable brake discs. However, is changing material in a well-established product so smooth and simple? It can be a challenging journey involving process and design changes, and it can take years to reach the perfect result. Have you ever wondered what the steps are when a new promising material becomes available?
In this webinar, we will discuss the challenges of replacing cast iron with aluminium-based composites in automotive brake discs. Different steps of the journey to lighter brake discs will be presented and discussed, with a look to the future steps.
