Design for casting: A designer's perspective
An efficient product realization process for castings, from design idea to finished product, requires a good interaction between the designer and the manufacturer. The designer needs to have a good insight into the casting process and understand the possibilities and limitations that the process puts on geometrical design.
This webinar is the second part on the topic “Design for casting”. In the first part, we heard the foundryman’s perspective from a manufacturing point of view, and this time we will have a look at a designer’s perspective. Giacomo Bertuzzi from Petrovalves SpA in Italy will share an example of how optimizing a design for casting enabled a more efficient design with both lower weight and lower cost. We will also discuss how computational tools such as casting process simulations and optimization can support the design process and make it more efficient.
Date: Nov. 18, 2021
Time: 10:00-11:00 (+ 30 min panel discussion and networking)
After attending this webinar you will know more about:
- How the different aspects of the geometrical design affect the casting process and the work in the foundry
- How a designer can take casting into consideration already early in the design process
- Understand how small changes in the design can have a large impact on the cost and environmental impact of a casting
This webinar is specifically useful for designers, purchasers and suppliers of cast components, but also everyone with an interest in product realization and casting in general.
