A look back at 2014
The story of last year's competition.
From the beginning the competition was a traditional business idea competition, which primarily generated interest among students already engaged in entrepreneurial activity. In 2013, JIBS decided to redesign the competition to engage a wider audience of students and inspire broad entrepreneurial thinking rather than individual start-up businesses. The competition now requires JIBS students to form teams with engineering students. The groups are asked to solve a practical entrepreneurial challenge and compete for a substantial cash prize.
For the 2014 event, JIBS teamed up with a local company called TMG Tabergs; one of Sweden’s largest suppliers of communications solutions, offering graphic design, print production, advanced web services and strategic business development. The company invited competing teams of JIBS students to a visit and challenged them to identify and develop a new business opportunity that leverages TMG Tabergs’ deep competence and proven competitive advantage in commercial printing—using printed paper—in the world of digital communication.
The teams were allowed 36 hours to create a solution and compose an 8-minute pitch. After a two-step jury selection process, the winning team walked away with 7,000 Euro. Three company representatives took part in the jury work (the CEO, Owner, and President) together with Science Park, JIBS, and engineering school faculty and Deans, plus student representatives.
To crown the event we invited as keynote speaker one of the successful entrepreneurs of Finland, Scoopshot founder Peter Rahja, who took part of the jury.
